Coaching Career Development
Coaching The Development of Careers
Career development may mean different things for every employee, but one thing remains constant, if we are not coaching our employees in the development of their careers we risk losing them. Coaching employees as they journey through their careers enriches their development, mitigates the risks associated with employees who seek to develop the careers independently of us, and builds strong, mutually beneficial relationships among managers and staff. Misunderstanding employees' career aspirations can lead to poor relationships -- and it can undermine our understanding of what motivates employees, leading to surprise pink-slips, misdirected motivational strategies, and lack-luster job performance.
Consider though what could happen if we knew what employees aspired to. How might that change they way we work with them? The kinds of work we give them? How we motivate and coach them? Imagine how guiding and our employees' development might reflect on us as leaders. What effect on turnover and job satisfaction might coaching career development have?
This course will teach you how to facilitate a one-on-one conversation to improve career development. In addition, this course will teach you how to use supplemental coaching methods to accelerate the development of career development.
